The FDA acknowledged this in November 1995 stating "new studies indicate about a two-fold increase in the risk of venous blood clots associated with products containing desogestrel." If blood clots form in your legs (referred to as deep vein thrombosis) they can travel to the lungs and cause blockages (pulmonary embolism).
NuvaRing problems including stroke, blood clots, DVT and pulmonary embolism have been reported. Side effects of NuvaRing may result due to changes in your blood clotting system. Some people link the higher risk of developing blood clots, strokes, and heart attacks with the type of progestin in NuvaRing. Side effects should be immediately evaluated by a doctor because complications can cause serious injuries and be life-threatening.
